The Metropolitan Police’s legal voice, 5 Essex Court’s own Jeremy Johnson QC is far from happy with ex Det Ch Supt Dave Cook.
‘”So far as Cook’s conduct is concerned, we accept, and always have done, that it’s completely unacceptable and thoroughly reprehensible and in principle gives rise to exemplary damages.”“’As to what he (Cook) did. We accept the judgment of Maddison and Mitting. Cook’s lie about contact with Eaton; Cook prompted Eaton to implicate the Vian brothers; misleading the CPS about his contact with Eaton; conduct that amounted to acts tending to and intending to pervert the course of justice. We absolutely accept all those findings and that the court of appeal found that rendered the Commissioner liable for malicious prosecution and misfeasance in a public office”.’
The future looks bleak for Cook, and his minions. One hears that Cook is to be charged, given what is now emerging it is hard to see him being found not guilty. That being the case, what is going to happen now?
Perhaps a vacancy awaits at Avon and Somers*t Contstabulary HQ?
